The Badagry Master Plan review, which started with the project award in April 2021, progressed with a stakeholder engagement held on Thursday, September 2, at the Buba Marwa Auditorium, Lagos State University, Ojo.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr Idris Salako, stated that the stakeholder engagement, after inauguration of the Technical Committee, underscored its importance as an integral part of the process of bequeathing a sustainable plan.

“The Review of Master Plan is adopted by the Lagos State Government to ensure that the Operative Development Plans continue to be up-to-date, relevant, reliable and purposeful. This is to facilitate the transformation of the Planned Areas as envisioned in the goals of the plans,” he said.

The commissioner expressed confidence that the ongoing review would ultimately resolve lapses in the Operative Development Plan and retrofit it for greater achievement, adding that the review of the Badagry Master Plan will align the development of the sub-region with the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu-led administration.

He, therefore, enjoined all stakeholders to collaborate with the State Government for its successful implementation.

Earlier, Dr Wale Alade, representing Vistaplan Consulting, said the review would focus on achieving a sub-region with a sustainable environment, social inclusiveness, efficient transportation and interconnectivity among others.

The stakeholders, among whom were lawmakers, paramount rulers and chiefs, as well as community leaders within Badagry Division of Lagos, embraced the project and urged that issues like government acquisition of land, village excision, security, environment and social infrastructure, among others, be factored into the review.
