Schneider Electric Shapes the Future of Real Estate at Property Development Conference

Global leader in energy management, Schneider Electric, recently held a Future of Property Development event, at Four Points by Sheraton, Lagos. The event aimed at achieving a convergence between the real estate stakeholders and interior designers, to drive safety, security, and sustainability in property development.

Key executives present at the event were: Country President, Schneider Electric, West Africa, Ajibola Akindele; Representatives from Schneider Electric; Key Representaitve, Lagos State Physical Planning, Raheem Sulaimon; Lead, Economic Intelligence Unit, Access Bank, Oluwaseun Olaoye; President, Interior Designers Association of Nigeria (IDAN), Jennifer Chukwujekwe; Managing Director, M&E Kaiser Limited, Jamila Faniyi, Executive Director, Telios Development, Michael Adesanmi, amongst others.

The primary discussions covered trends influencing Nigeria’s construction sector, the macroeconomic impacts on real estate, and the importance of integrating Building Management Systems (BMS) to enhance property value. The conversations also addressed the significance of effective physical planning in Nigeria, including relevant laws and regulations, as well as interior design considerations in property development. In addition, the conversations covered strategies for electrical protection in residential and commercial buildings, along with extensive fire safety measures to be applied before, during, and after construction.

     

According to Country President, Schneider Electric, Ajibola Akindele, as an impact-driven organization, Schneider Electric is dedicated to advancing the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11-to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. “Our commitment involves ensuring access to safe, sustainable, and affordable  housing for all in Nigeria. With a network of over 300 partners, Schneider Electric is actively  cultivating partnerships with key stakeholders in property development across the nation with an  objective to facilitate partnerships among developers, planners, interior designers, and architects  to create safe, reliable, and eco-friendly homes.” He said.

Speaking on the electrical protection for homes of the future, Head of Homes and Distribution, Anglophone West Africa, Grace Olorunsola, highlighted solutions for sustainable building protection, “According to Nigeria’s Federal Fire Service, electrical sparks are a major cause of  fires in Nigeria. Schneider Electric offers solutions like the Mini Circuit Breakers(MCBs) to prevent  fires, Residual Current Devices(RCDs), and Surge Protection Devices(SPDs) to prevent electrical  shock and protect electronics from lightning.” She said.

Emphasizing the importance of proper planning and layered safety in building foundations, the President of the Interior Designers Association, Jennifer Chukwujekwe, highlighted the need for collaboration with ethical professionals to achieve a sustainable real estate future, “While  maintaining open communication with developers, planners, architects, and designers to ensure  we build safe and secure homes, it is crucial that we partner exclusively with ethical professionals  who prioritize the value of life and property over profit to ensure the safety of lives.”

Channel Sales Director, Schneider Electric, Nurudeen Oyedeji, highlighted recent initiatives, noting that Schneider Electric recently deployed solar solutions that power up to 50 primary healthcare centres across two states in East Nigeria. Schneider Electric drives digital transformation by integrating world-leading process and energy technologies, endpoint to cloud connecting products, controls, software, and services, across the entire lifecycle, enabling integrated company management, for homes, buildings, data centres, infrastructure, and industries.
