Lagos State Calls on Property Owners to Voluntary Comply With Land Use Charges

The Lagos State Government has appealed to property owners to voluntarily pay their Land Use Charge (LUC) to improve infrastructure development across the state.

During a recent meeting with the Parkview Residents’ Association in Ikoyi, Commissioner for Finance Abayomi Oluyomi emphasized that timely payments would help tackle significant infrastructure challenges.

He highlighted the low compliance rates among affluent residents and reiterated the civic responsibility of fulfilling these charges. He further explained that a 15% discount has been introduced for a incentivize early payment with warnings about potential legal repercussions for non-compliance.

However, he disclosed that senior citizens and few other categories will be exempted on the charge but warned that involuntary compliance will attract legal consequences.

He further noted that the state government has deployed temporary staff to educate the public across the Lagos island and others.

He noted, “We have completed visits to 8 of the 200 estates in the axis, and our efforts to reach more areas are still in progress.”

The Commission also highlighted the repercussions of non-compliance, noting that the government plans to publicly release the names of defaulters.
