Lagos Govt Gives 24-hour Eviction Notice to POWA Complex Traders at Computer Village
Lagos State Government has delivered a 24-hour eviction notice to traders occupying the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) shopping complex in the bustling Computer Village of Ikeja. The Lagos task force has been diligent in affixing these notices to various shops within the complex.
Official sources reveal that the government’s decision stems from the deteriorating condition of POWA Phase I and II, citing concerns over dilapidation, defacement, and overall distress. This development has sparked controversy, with traders asserting that the demolition proposal originated from Achieving Greatness Limited and was presented to the National President of POWA and the National Market Leader.
Despite claims from affected traders that a court order has been obtained to halt the impending demolition, tensions remain high. “We might stage a peaceful protest to register our displeasure,” warns one of the traders, emphasizing the uncertainty surrounding their future.
This move comes on the heels of a previous protest by some traders on December 20, who vehemently opposed the government’s intentions to demolish the complex. Allegations have surfaced, pointing fingers at Elizabeth Egbetokun, the wife of the Inspector-General of Police, who is purportedly linked to the directive for the property’s demolition.
