Magodo Eviction: Lagos State Govt. To Allocate Vacant Land To Shangisha Landlords
The Lagos state government has set in motion a process to find and allocate vacant land around the Shangisha village scheme to the 549 Shangisha Landlords in a move to settling the more than 3 decades face-off and resolve the Magodo land tussle.
Following the Lagos state governor’s meeting with key stakeholders in the matter including the Shangisha Landlords’ Association (Judgement Creditors), their lawyers, Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Policemen from the F.C.T. Command and Trustees of the Magodo Residents’ Association at the State house, the following six resolutions were arrived at.
That the Committee set up by the State Government to resolve the dispute will meet with the Judgment Creditors (Shangisha Landlords’ Association) on Friday 7th of January.

Secondly, the Surveyor-General of Lagos State, Permanent Secretary Lands Bureau and Hon. Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development are to immediately set out and identify available plots of land within the Shangisha village scheme.
Thirdly, the Committee is to identify how the available plots are to be accessed and whether any infrastructural development is necessary to access the land.
Next, upon identification of available and accessible land, the State Government is to immediately allocate same to the 549 Judgment Creditors.
In the event that there is no available and accessible land within the Shangisha village scheme to allocate to all the 549 Judgment Creditors, the State Government in agreement with the Judgment Creditors, is to provide alternative plots of land.
Lastly, it was resolved that the Police will restrain themselves from carrying out any conduct or action that may instigate violence or breakdown of law and order in Magodo.
The resolutions which are in relation to the enforcement of Judgment of the Supreme Court delivered on the 10th of February 2012 in favour of the Shangisha Landlords’ Association in suit no SC/112/2002
The Shangisha Landlords’ Association has with the assistance of the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami laid siege on the Magodo Phase II estate for some weeks now in a bid to effect the implementation of the Supreme Court judgment and this has caused unrest as residents of the estate resisted the move.
