Magodo Eviction: Police CSP Openly Defies Sanwo-Olu As Shangisha Landlords Intensify Efforts To Reclaim Their Lands
An un-identified Chief Superintendent of Police this Tuesday defied Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the on-going drive by the Shangisha Landlords to re-claim plots within the Magodo Phase II highbrow estate.
The CSP engaged the governor as he refused to stand down claiming they were acting on the orders of the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.
Despite the governor’s insistence and his presence, the CSP directed the governor to reach out to his superiors who he said are the only ones who can give him the order to stand down and thus refused to order his men to stand down from patrolling the estate.
A resident who spoke to newsmen decried the attempt to pull down their houses as he described it as a reckless display of power saying they were ready to fight and protect their houses with their blood.
The governor had earlier stormed the estate as residents sent out an SOS call as they lamented that the estate was under siege from the policemen who were seen marking various houses across the estate.
The Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) had earlier said that unknown bailiffs were behind the Tuesday 21st December attempted eviction of residents of the estate into confusion.
The residents of Magodo Phase II have been involved in a face-off for some weeks now with a faction of the Shangisha Landlords Association led by Adeyiga who say they have the mandate to claim plots within the estate following a Supreme Court judgement.
Meanwhile,
lawyers to a faction of the Shangisha Landlords had earlier stated that their clients were not in support of the forceful attempt but rather had reached out to the Lagos State government for a peaceful resolution of the matter.
