Monarch Lifts Centuries-Old Curse on Community
His Majesty Obi, Dr Emmanuel Efeizomor II, of Owa Kingdom, has officially revoked a centuries-old ancestral curse on the Ogbe-Ohun quarter in Owa Oyibu, Daily Trust reports.
The decision comes after a solemn ceremony witnessed by the council of elders and a significant number of the community’s residents, where traditional rites were performed to dispel the long-standing curse.
The roots of this ancient curse trace back to the alleged defiance of Ogbe-Ohun quarter against the authority of the previous Owa king, Obi Efeizomor I. In response, the entire community, under the leadership of the monarch, imposed a curse on Ogbe-Ohun for bringing the king’s name into disrepute.
During a public gathering in the palace, Mr Samuel Chukwuka Ogboi, a spokesperson for Ogbe-Ohun quarter, recounted the suffering and misfortunes the community endured as a result of the curse. The people of Ogbe-Ohun collectively approached the king, pleading for forgiveness and expressing remorse for their actions.
Responding to their plea, Dr Emmanuel Efeizomor II performed traditional rites, requesting divine intervention to lift the curse. With native chalk in hand, he prayed for the troubled dissidents, urging both God and the ancestors to forgive them as they sought atonement for their wrongdoing.
In his address, the Owa monarch emphasized the importance of repentance and cautioned against future transgressions. Dr Emmanuel Efeizomor II, while lifting the ancestral curse, highlighted the inevitability of consequences for any malicious acts committed by individuals within the community.
