…As LASPPPA reiterates commitment to ’10-Day Deal’, explains process

The Lagos State Government department responsible for the approval of building permits, the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA), says it remains committed to the policy of “10-Day Deal” for the commencement and completion of planning applications.
An agency saddled with the responsibilities of processing and issuance of all planning permits, LASPPPA also monitors and ensures compliance with the provisions of the Physical Planning Regulations, Approved Operative Development Plans and Approval Orders in the state.
According to the General Manager, LASPPPA, Mr Kehinde Osinaike, during a review meeting with the management and staff of the authority, “The Authority remains committed to the policy of “10-Day Deal” for the commencement and completion of planning applications.”
In a chat with Castles Lifestyle, Mrs Busola Olatunji, one of the contact persons at LASPPPA, explained that the 10-Day Deal starts at the point where developers/owners of buildings have registered with LASPPPA.
She said, “We are trying to improve the process from 30 working days to 10 working days.
“The 10-Day Deal starts at the point of registration with LASPPPA, and this is after all your documents must have been screened and cleared. Then an appointment is given to you for payment to Lagos State.”
Some building documents to be screened and cleared by the state relevant agencies include the structural and architectural drawings, Olatunji hinted, and that the developers/owners of buildings must have paid the necessary charges before the 10-Day Deal can commence.
According to her, the payment for the planning permit is scientifically calculated based on what the developers/owners of buildings proposed to build.
The e-Planning Permit platform of the state is where developers/owners of buildings can visit to input whatever they want to build, and the official rate will be calculated, she said, “It is not as if it is arbitrarily calculated.”
She explained further that after developers/owners of buildings have made the payment, the 10-day deal starts at the point of registration, and that nothing could cause delay in getting the building permit within that 10-day working period, except for the provision of their tax clearance.
The deal is subject to the payment of tax to the Lagos State Inland Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), she said, adding that other issues would have been dealt with before commencement of registration of the planning permit with LASPPPA.
While stressing on the zero-tolerance stance of the state government on illegal construction, Osinaike urged stakeholders in the built environment to comply with the Physical Planning Permit Laws and Regulations to address the incidents of building collapse and its attendant effects.
