A protest was on Thursday staged in Lagos by civil society organisations and traders from Orilowo Perishable Food Market, Agboyi-Ketu, over the status of the site of their market.

The protesters took their grievances to the Lagos State House of Assembly after alleging that they had earlier met with the authority of the area development council which refused to address their plea for a site for the market.

The claim made by the protesters was, however, faulted by the Executive Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mr. Dele Oshinowo, who denied ever meeting the protesters.

“That place is not marked for market. They have not gone to Lagos State Ministry of Lands to change the use of the land to a market site.

“The group has issues with plantain sellers and started having a fight. The place they are claiming is not for market.“We cannot be creating market at every spot. Rather than come to me, they went ahead to protest, what are they protesting”, he asked.
