In a significant development for Lagos, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu officially inaugurated the Phase I of the Greenwich Gardens housing project on Friday.

Spearheaded by Mayor Dele, Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area, the transformative initiative was realized through a Public Private Partnership.

Spanning an expansive 27 hectares of land, Greenwich Gardens is a multifaceted development featuring 101 residences. The housing mix includes 66 units of 2-Bedroom Flats, 14 Units of 3-Bedroom Semi Detached Houses, 1 unit of a 4-Bedroom Detached House, 20 Units of 3-Bedroom Terraces, and 65 residential plots as part of a comprehensive sites and service scheme.

Remarkably, the project site’s history is a tale of urban rejuvenation. Once occupied by a food market, the location had succumbed to neglect, transforming into a dumping ground and a notorious hideout for criminals in the Ajelogo area of Agboyi-Ketu. Mayor Dele’s vision, coupled with the collaboration fostered through the Public Private Partnership, not only revitalized the land but also converted it into a thriving residential enclave.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, while addressing the significance of the project, emphasized the government’s commitment to urban renewal and affordable housing.

The Greenwich Gardens housing project stands as a testament to the positive impact achievable through collaborative efforts, not only in addressing housing challenges but also in reclaiming spaces that once harbored crime.

As Lagos continues its trajectory of urban development, initiatives like Greenwich Gardens contribute not only to the city’s housing stock but also to the overall transformation of neglected areas into vibrant, safe communities.
