A protest was staged at the National Assembly complex calling for the resignation of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The protest was led by a coalition of 10,000 indigenes of the FCT under the aegis of Network of Civil Societies for Economic Sustainability.

Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Adamu Matazu lamented that “Wike is incompetent and lacks vision” for the FCT.

He was quoted by The Guardian: “Today, we stand united to express our concern over the direction of the FCT under the watch of Wike. It is abysmal and disturbing for the FCT to become an epicentre of controversy due to the misguided actions of Wike, which not only undermine President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, but also cast a shadow on the credibility of the Federal Government.

“We are here today to demand the immediate resignation, investigation and prosecution of Wike as Minister of FCT due to his inefficiency in a government that promises to renew the hope of Nigerians. A government that wishes to give hope to its citizens must be run by men, who possess the required quality of a leader.

“While the Federal Government has been calm and calculated in its reforms and its explanations to citizens on the rationale behind the policies of the government, Wike has been insensitive; insulting the collective sensibilities of FCT residents and Nigerians in general.”

The coalition then urged President Bola Tinubu to check the excesses of the minister and to probe his office.
